You Are A Gift That Keeps On Giving
A world where we are all the same would be pretty boring – right? Variety certainly is the spice of life.
I work with so many colleagues with different personalities, behaviours and skill sets. Things that individually they have acquired on their own journeys through life.
My working days are never the same and I learn so much about people.
We all get to a point where we start to question the meaning of life, the universe and everything. (Funnily enough – the answer is not just the number 42). This momentary dilemma may occur when we reach a crossroad and we are trying to figure out what our actual purpose is.
What some of us do not realise is that we all have at least one gift in us; maybe more.
What do I mean by your gifts? It is not necessarily something that you have studied for but a natural talent or ability.
When you are using your gift – it is the essence of you that is given to others. People around you respond in a positive way and you do it with minimum effort.
I believe people who get in a quandary about what they want to do for a living, have not self-analysed what they are really good at. They then squeeze themselves into the humdrum of any 9-5 job and then decide there is no job satisfaction. If you get it right – your gifts can make a living for you. I love cooking at home but that doesn’t mean that I should open a restaurant. I can’t imagine a more stressful situation. I would not be happy. I am not gifted in that area. Round peg / square hole comes to mind.
Your natural gift (or gifts) could fall into the following areas: hospitality, teaching, serving, leadership, encouragement, and administration. You may then choose to enhance your gift through education.
Since becoming a Training Manager, I have learnt to recognise where my gifts lie.
I am a good teacher and I love to encourage people to see the best in themselves. I have a heart of servitude and I am perpetually developing my leadership skills.
With New Year fast approaching, consider making your resolution to focus on you, understand what you do best and decide how you can use your gifts daily. It might be overwhelming at first – you might need to make significant changes in your life. You may have a natural aptitude in an area that you have never considered but you need to take the time to work it out. Let that be your special gift to you.
